HALIBUT SPEARFISHING IN NORWAY

Halibut Spearfishing Expeditions in Tromsø, North Norway

Contact whale diving

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

In the cold, nutrient-rich waters outside Tromsø lives one of the strongest flatfish on Earth.
Atlantic halibut can exceed 200 kg. Hooking one is not fishing. It's combat.

Our private expeditions are designed for serious anglers who want the real Arctic experience

ABOUT THIS TRIP

This is not a fishing trip, It’s an expedition.

Aboard Archipelago, we take you deep into the Arctic coastal waters surrounding Tromsø — where mountains rise straight from the sea, currents collide, and true giants roam the depths. This full-day experience blends raw nature, precision, and adrenaline in one of the world’s most dramatic marine environments.

Our primary target is halibut, the silent heavyweight of the north, but we also hunt cod and other local species depending on conditions and season.

The expedition is led by highly experienced professional guides with deep knowledge of Arctic waters, safety protocols, and spearfishing techniques. Your guide is in the water with you, offering hands-on instruction, real-time feedback, and constant supervision to ensure both safety and performance.

Whether this is your first encounter with spearfishing or you’re an experienced freediver looking for an elite Arctic challenge, the experience is tailored to your level.

Spearfishing is selective, sustainable, and deeply immersive. You choose your fish. You read the conditions. You move as part of the environment, not above it. There is silence before action, focus before commitment and respect after.

This is Arctic outdoor life in its most honest form.

HALIBUT SPEARFISHING

Halibut spearfishing is possible most of the year, with the official season running from April 20th to December 20th. While halibut can be encountered throughout the season, the prime months are September to November. During autumn, the largest halibut move into shallow water, and visibility is often excellent, creating ideal conditions for both spearfishing.

Summer brings warmer waters and more variable visibility but this is when the marine life is at its most diverse. A variety of other huntable species, including cod, plaice, saithe, monkfish, and wolffish, can be found throughout the year.

Arctic delicacies such as sea urchins, scallops, and mussels are available year-round, ensuring we always return with some local treats even if the bigger fish is absent.

Freediving in Norway is a unique experience in any season. Each time of year offers its own atmosphere and character, making every dive unique and memorable.
